- Auto met verlengd serviceinterval (longlife-systeem): Rijdt je auto op een variabel serviceinterval waarbij de boordcomputer bepaalt wanneer je wisselt, dan is een olie met longlife-goedkeuring noodzakelijk. Gewone olie is daar niet voor gemaakt en houdt de kwaliteit over langere intervallen niet vol.
- Motor waarbij 5W-30 beter past dan 5W-40: Bij motoren die specifiek om 5W-30 vragen geeft een dunnere olie bij bedrijfstemperatuur minder wrijving en een lager verbruik dan 5W-40. Gebruik je toch 5W-40 in zo'n motor, dan werk je tegen de fabrieksafstelling in en kan het brandstofverbruik iets oplopen.
- Minder geschikt voor motoren met een andere olie-specificatie: Schrijft de fabrikant een andere norm voor, bijvoorbeeld ACEA A3/B4 of een specifieke BMW Longlife-01-goedkeuring, dan dek je de motor niet goed in. Kijk in dat geval welke goedkeuring jouw motor vereist en kies de olie die daar exact op aansluit.
